Full day tour, lunch included

Aboard a LAND ROVER DEFENDER, we’ll leave your hotel and take National Route N°3 heading into the Andes mountain range, where the imposing Mount Olivia and Mount Cinco Hermanos will soon greet us.

Our first stop is the lookout at the amazing Carbajal valley, where you’ll discover the oldest traces of the last ice age and the ecosystem that originated after it: dramatic mountain formations, small glaciers, perpetual snow, peat bogs and forest; nothing less than an epic introduction to the geography of Tierra del Fuego.

Epic Viewpoints

Together with your guide, a true local expert, we’ll stop at several lookouts along the way: places to see the pure runoff water from the mountains, ancient peat bogs and a chance to connect with the landscape before we make our way to the lakes.

High Pass

Crossing the mountain range is truly a fantastic experience. At 450 meters above sea level we get to the Garibaldi Pass where we’ll cross the Andes and make a stop to take in the day’s first glimpse of lake Escondido and lake Khami (Fagnano). This unmissable panoramic view is a must for any memory album.

4×4 Off-Roading

Upon arriving at the historic Bronsovich Sawmill, one of the province’s highlights, we turn off the main road and take Provincial Route N°119 towards our off-road circuit, where we’ll recut the paths of the old woodsmen who once upon a time lived out their life-adventures here! We’ll visit the beaver dams and learn about the tremendous work of these animals. Getting your boots muddy mud is an optional extra (free of charge!) but fun is guaranteed as we make our way through the lenga beech-wood forest over some pretty rough terrain that will test our 4×4s.

Forest Walk

A short walk through the forest is in order to catch our breath and fill the lungs with some of the world’s purest air.  Take in the ancient trees you find yourself in the middle of dense forest and let the imagination awaken in a landscape that changes greatly with each season of the year. Surrounded by this marvellous backdrop we’ll stop for a few minutes to enjoy a hot beverage.

By Lake Khami

After crossing the forest, we’ll visit the shore of Lake Khami (Fagnano), one of the largest lakes in the world, and an extremely special place through whose centre runs the Magellanes-Fagnano Fault. Undoubtedly, this is a sight where the earth’s great energetic power is in the air.

Khami Reset

The Onas, native peoples of Tierra del Fuego, named the lake “the rest of the horizon” because of the imaginary horizon the mountain range forms, is then interrupted by the lake, then continues on the other side. Here there’ll be time for each of us to relate to the environment in their own way, to experience the pristine nature of the lake, to walk along the shore, to let the imagination recreate what it would have been like for the original inhabitants of Tierra del Fuego to live by these waters, and to travel in time in a place where man’s interventions on the planet are not seen.

Lunch

And as if anything was missing from this experience, let’s now talk about lunch!
Included in the trip is an exquisite lunch surrounded by spectacular views in the magic of a  traditional argentine country establishment. From here we will say goodbye to this wonderful landscape and return to Ushuaia.
